How we calculate fair and balanced player & team rankings
Our rating system uses a confidence-adjusted formula that balances skill (winning & scoring) with experience (games played). This ensures that players who consistently perform well over many games are ranked higher than those with just a few lucky wins.
Final Rating = Raw Rating ร Confidence
The rating is built from three main components:
How often you win games. Winning is the most important factor!
Formula: Wins รท Total Games
50% WeightYour average points per game. High scores show consistent skill!
Formula: Total Score รท Games รท 100
30% WeightRewards experience! More games = more reliable rating.
Formula: 1 - e(-games/5)
MultiplierRaw Rating = (Win Rate ร 0.5) + (Avg Score รท 100 ร 0.3)
Confidence = 1 - e(-games รท 5)
The confidence multiplier ensures that players with few games don't unfairly dominate the rankings. Here's how it scales:
| Games Played | Confidence | Effect on Rating | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 18% | Rating reduced to ~1/5 | ๐ฑ Rookie |
| 2 | 33% | Rating reduced to ~1/3 | ๐ฟ Beginner |
| 3 | 45% | Rating at ~half | ๐ณ Learning |
| 5 | 63% | Rating at ~2/3 | โญ Regular |
| 10 | 86% | Nearly full credit | ๐ Experienced |
| 15 | 95% | Almost full credit | ๐ซ Veteran |
| 20+ | 98%+ | Full credit | ๐ Master |
Let's compare two players to see why this system is fair:
Winning matters most - 50% of your rating comes from win rate
Score counts - High scores boost your rating by up to 30%
Play more games - Your rating grows as you prove yourself
No shortcuts - One lucky game won't make you #1
Consistency wins - Steady performance beats lucky streaks
Be patient - After ~10 games, you get nearly full credit
Win games! This is the biggest factor in your rating
Score high - Even in losses, high scores help your average
Play regularly - More games = higher confidence multiplier
Stay consistent - Avoid big losing streaks
